If you are a member of any online darts forum or maybe a darts related Facebook group or fan page, you will have no doubt, come across a "Show Us Your Darts" thread.
One thing I have noticed in these threads is that many of the same people post pictures of their new darts. Now, I know many people collect various sets of darts but most of the posters on such forums are addicted to buying set after set, in the hope that the new set will be "the one" that makes them play better.
Usually their new set will be whichever pro player they have just seen play well on TV or maybe a pro player has a new set that's just come out.
Don't get me wrong, I have tried loads of different sets over the years but like most people, I always ended up going back to a particular set or specific shaped dart.
Reading through the forums, you will find this is a common, no, a very common occurrence.
I honestly believe that if you stick with a certain set of darts and also use the same length shaft and shaped flight every time, then you will improve over time. Sure, sometimes you hit a purple patch with a new set but it never lasts.....I know that every time I went back to my old set that they felt natural in my hand and I played well with them straight away.
I'm all for experimenting, especially if you are a new player but switching darts can become very expensive, at least if you are testing out various length shafts and different shaped flights, there are very cheap options available.
My advice to any budding dart player is maybe pick up a few different shaped darts cheap of Ebay or somewhere similar, maybe different weights too and see which feels the most comfortable. Do the same with flights and shafts and when you find a set up you feel most comfortable with, stick with that set up for a month or so. Give it time and I'm positive you will improve faster than you would if you switch your darts set up around all the time.
Give it a shot and I might see you on the oche one day.
